This can give the perception that songs aren’t matched in volume if you are very familiar with the tracks being played as you will notice intros which were normally softer being louder than before, giving the appearance the song itself is being played louder. So if a song has lows, it’s boosts them, if it has highs it reduces them. It applies attenuation or amplification based on the volume output at any given point.
